Every business owner I talk to underestimates how much manual work is actually costing them. Here's how to calculate it honestly.
Most people think of automation as a nice-to-have. But when you sit down and calculate the actual cost of the manual work it would replace, the math changes fast.
The time cost
Take your most repetitive weekly task. How many hours does it take? Multiply by 52. Now multiply by the hourly rate of whoever does it. That's your baseline annual cost.
One client was spending 14 hours/week on manual invoicing. At £40/hr, that's £29,120/year. We automated it in 2 weeks for £1,200.
The opportunity cost
The real number isn't the labour cost — it's what that person could have been doing instead. Sales calls. Product development. Client work. That multiplier is usually 3–5x.
